As a skilled Business Analyst, you need to be aware of the most common BA tools and techniques and apply them successfully and independently in relatively complex initiatives. Based on your knowledge and experience (4+ years), you need to be able to autonomously (using your own judgement) identify the actions required to get the job done and produce the most appropriate outputs. These outputs must lead to the desired outcome and generate the expected business value for the customers and end users.

Some of the tasks, you would perform include:

    –        Selecting the appropriate BA approach and executing it smoothly.
    –        Using active listening and elicitation skills and techniques to understand the real needs of the customer instead of just “gathering” the requirements.
    –        Determining the level of formality and focusing on working solutions over comprehensive documentation.
    –        Performing stakeholder analysis and facilitating stakeholder meetings.
    –        Planning and executing effective prioritization and approval process related to the elicited requirements.
    –        Managing the produced BA information successfully and creating shared understanding amongst all stakeholders.
    –        Producing artifacts such as: Stakeholder maps, Glossary, Conceptual data model, Business process model, Use cases model, State diagrams,  Business rules model, Form fields description,    Messages repository, External interface specification, Non-functional requirements
    –        Taking part in the creation of formal deliverables, such as: Vision and scope document,   Software requirements specification, Estimations, Presentations

When acting in the role of a Proxy Product Owner, you would also need to have adopted an agile mindset and be able to apply agile practices and lean thinking. Respect, courage, collaboration, continuous learning, customer focus, and value maximization are core characteristics you need to possess. A must have is the understanding and application of the agile BA principles of See the Whole, Think as a Customer, Analyze to Determine What is Valuable, Get Real Using Examples, Understand What is Doable, Stimulate Collaboration and Continuous Improvement, and Avoid Waste.

Active participation in the Scrum ceremonies would be an important part of your work.

You must possess experience and feel comfortable producing and defining: Vision Statement, Product Roadmap, Release and Iteration Plans, Minimal viable product, Story maps, Personas and User stories, Storyboards

Being able to manage a product backlog is a must have capability. While taking a major part during the backlog refinement sessions, you should also specify the clarified acceptance criteria so that the appropriate product backlog items are set to the Definition of Ready. Story decomposition and story elaboration are techniques which you would need to apply successfully in your work.
